Final Site Plans (for this week)

Some more minor tweaking on the first floor plan based on Enno's suggestions:

Pavilion has been shifted now giving the main site stair more prominence from the street level. The pavilion itself creates a "cocoon" of sorts - the interior of it shrouded by larger masses of double thickness walls to allow for an ever transforming display depending on the time of day. I also added a secondary site stair to the top level of the pavilion.

The geometry of the lower plaza paving has been modified slightly to improve and direct movement through the site from all entry points.

The urban tree clusters have a more organic layout and also help to enhance and direct the movement through the site.

The second level plaza has geometry similar to the site movement rules established by the lower level. The building is sliced in two by the connector to the plaza - and this helps establish each side of the nightclub.

The upper level park is populated with trees - visible through the building to entice passers by to the upper level, and at night the park is transformed into MEGA DISCO.

Eric,
Its amazing to see the forward progress your plans have taken.

The element that I found to be most interesting is the tech pavilion entry way. Although I have not yet seen an elevation, I can imagine that this element will "capture" people off the street - inviting them to enter the building.

My one question for you, however, is how tall is that observation tower? Is it only 2 stories? If so, what will I be "observing" from that height? I can also see the street from the Pru Center (windows on second floor overlooking street)or from the Hines Center windows. Perhaps this element should be taller in order to capture a larger view of the downtown area.

Fantastic drawings - cant wait to hit MEGA DISCO after the next intensive in August.

Eric,

You developed the plans nicely and were able to integrate my comments. Does the layout make sense to you as well?

Michelle's point about the height of the pavillion is well taken: study it this week in section and model.

I like how you defined three individual zones on the upper level: dancing/circulation, dining and the more secluded area, which I assume has sitting benches. Give this area a name as well and define its characteristics.

Some minor comments:

- The stair might have landings to feel less intimidating going up.

- what is the double line that structures the lower plaza? Sitting benches, steps, surface material change? In either case the lines are bit confusing geometrically and don't add anything to the scheme. What is the difference between the plaza on either side? Simplify or eliminate this element.

- The tech pavillion does not need that many entrances. What exactly is in it anyway?

Nice job Eric!

Eric –

Looking good!

One thing that caught my eye is the observation tower/piece. I think that would be interesting to see if you could get the night club brought out into it. Seeing people dancing out in that space would definitely grab some attention. You have a VIP lounge, what about a VIP dance club. Maybe Tom Brady would show up to bust a move?!!?

I am also with Enno, what is the tech pavilion?
